About CCA

Community Care Alliance (CCA) is a network of community health centers affiliated with Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center (BIDMC) that joins Bowdoin Street, Dimock, Fenway, Joseph M. Smith, Outer Cape, Sidney Borum Jr., and South Cove Community Health Centers. Formed in 1997, CCA came together to meet the health care needs of our community’s most vulnerable patients. We ensure health care access for the disenfranchised, underinsured and uninsured by offering culturally responsive, community-based health care and social services. Our centers offer a broad range of primary and specialty services, including adult, family, pediatric and adolescent medicine, mental health services, OB/GYN, addiction and social services, holistic therapies, as well as a variety of community resources. CCA health centers employ over 100 medical providers and serve over 70,000 patients in more than 300,000 visits annually.

The communities served by CCA health centers are extremely diverse. CCA serves patients in Allston/Brighton, Back Bay, Chinatown, Dorchester, Fenway, Jamaica Plain, Mattapan, Quincy, Roxbury, South End, Waltham, and Outer Cape Cod. Patients cared for in the CCA system include Black American, Cape Verdean, Chinese, Elder, Gay/Lesbian/Bisexual/ Transgender, homeless, Latino, runaway/”throwaway” adolescents, Russian, Vietnamese and other disenfranchised groups. Health center services are offered in 16 different languages including Cantonese, Cape Verdean, Haitian, Hindi, Russian, Creole, Khmer, Mandarin, Portuguese, Spanish, Toisanese and Vietnamese.

CCA health centers significantly contribute to creating and sustaining healthier communities by increasing access to high-quality, community-based primary and specialty care. Many of our patients experience financial hardships that can hinder them from seeking care for such ailments as asthma, cardiovascular disease, stroke, cancer, and diabetes. CCA recognizes that our patients face the “heat, eat, or treat” dilemma and continues to strive towards providing services to those in the community that are have limited or no health insurance coverage.

Mission Statement
Community Care Alliance is a network of community health centers that have united to ensure and meet the needs of our vulnerable patients. Our strength is our diversity while preserving individuality. The alliance works together to ensure health care access for the disenfranchised, underinsured and uninsured.

Governance
CCA’s governance is entirely community-health-center based. Consistent with the requirements of a Massachusetts limited liability corporation, CCA is governed by a Board of Managers consisting of the executive directors of the seven member health centers. Our primary adult hospital affiliate, Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center, has ex-officio representation on the Board. In addition to the Board of Managers, there are separate committees that report to the board. The Board of Managers creates ad-hoc work groups to address issues such as pharmacy or human resources; membership in these work groups may include members from the Board of Managers as well as health center or hospital staff, consumers of health center services, or representatives from the Massachusetts League of Community Health Centers.

Integrated Service Delivery Initiative/Federal Support
Community Care Alliance has successfully implemented many initiatives with the generous financial support and wise counsel of the Health Center Controlled Networks of the Health Resources Service Administration of the Bureau of Primary Health Care. With the award of our first developmental grant in 1999, CCA was recognized as a “health center network” and began to develop its infrastructure including appointment of an Managing Director, a committee structure with standing committees of the Board of Managers and Medical Directors, and ad-hoc work groups. During the initial grant period, CCA health centers also conducted an intensive information technology assessment and training project. Another outstanding achievement was the successful Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations (JCAHO) accreditation of five health centers and the award of 330-designation (designation of federal qualification as a health center) to one member center.
